La NASA ha scelto Boeing<\/a> per guidare lo sviluppo e i test di volo dell\u2019aereo sperimentale Transonic Truss-Braced Wing – TTBW su ampia scala. Le tecnologie sviluppate e testate nell\u2019ambito del programma \u201cSustainable Flight Demonstrator \u2013 SFD\u201d delineeranno i progetti futuri e potrebbero portare a miglioramenti nell\u2019aerodinamica e nell’efficienza del carburante.<\/p>\n

Se combinato con i previsti progressi nei sistemi di propulsione, nei materiali e nell\u2019architettura dei sistemi, un aereo a corridoio singolo con configurazione TTBW potrebbe abbattere il consumo di carburante e le emissioni fino al 30% rispetto agli aerei pi\u00f9 efficienti di oggi.<\/p>\n

Il programma SFD mira a promuovere l\u2019impegno dell\u2019industria dell\u2019aviazione civile nel raggiungere zero emissioni entro il 2050, nonch\u00e9 gli obiettivi stabiliti nello U.S. Aviation Climate Action Plan della Casa Bianca.<\/p>\n

Ali ultrasottili sostenute da montanti, con campate pi\u00f9 ampie, potrebbero alla fine ospitare sistemi di propulsione avanzati che sono limitati dalla mancanza di spazio sotto l\u2019ala nelle odierne configurazioni di aerei ad ala bassa. Per il velivolo dimostrativo, Boeing utilizzer\u00e0 elementi di aerei esistenti e li integrer\u00e0 con componenti completamente nuovi.<\/p>\n

Il finanziamento della NASA attraverso l\u2019accordo SFD Space Act ammonta a 425 milioni di dollari. Il programma SFD sfrutter\u00e0 inoltre fino a 725 milioni di dollari di finanziamenti da parte di Boeing e dei suoi partner industriali per dare forma al programma pilota e soddisfare le esigenze di risorse richieste.
