{"id":4950,"date":"2019-06-21T10:43:38","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T09:43:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=4950"},"modified":"2026-01-29T19:51:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:51:13","slug":"skyguardian-surpasses-100-test-flights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=4950","title":{"rendered":"SKYGUARDIAN SURPASSES 100 TEST FLIGHTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ga-asi.com\/mq-9b\">MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft \u2013 RPA<\/a>, designed and developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ga-asi.com\/\">General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. &#8211; GA\u2011ASI<\/a>, has now flown more than <strong>100 test flights<\/strong> as development continues towards its first delivery to the Royal Air Force &#8211; RAF as part of the <strong>Protector RG Mk1 programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Since making its <strong>first flight in November 2016<\/strong>, <strong>GA-ASI<\/strong> has kept the new <strong>drone<\/strong> busy performing a variety of flights, from <strong>long endurance testing<\/strong> (logging <strong>48.2 consecutive hours in flight <\/strong>in May 2017) to becoming the <strong>first Medium-altitude<\/strong>, <strong>Long-range RPA<\/strong> to perform a <strong>trans-Atlantic flight <\/strong>in July 2018. A second company-owned <strong>SkyGuardian <\/strong>was completed in September 2018 to support the aggressive development workload.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere\u2019s no rest for these aircraft <\/em>\u2013 said to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spazio-news.it\/\">Spazio-News Magazine<\/a> David R. Alexander, president, Aircraft Systems, GA-ASI -. <em>They\u2019re built to remain aloft for long periods of time performing the important missions our customers require. SkyGuardian is customizable with nine hardpoints and payloads to meet customer requirements. Just another reason why we\u2019re getting so much interest from international customers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Royal Air Force &#8211; RAF<\/strong> is acquiring SkyGuardian as part of its <strong>Protector RG Mk1 programme<\/strong> and is scheduled for first delivery in the <strong>early<\/strong> <strong>2020s<\/strong>. The <strong>Government of Belgium<\/strong> has approved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mil.be\/\">Belgian Defense<\/a> <strong>to negotiate the acquisition of <em>SkyGuardian<\/em><\/strong> to meet the nation\u2019s RPA requirements. The <strong>aircraft<\/strong> is also being considered by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defence.gov.au\/\">Australian Defence Force<\/a>, who chose <strong>GA-ASI <\/strong>to supply an RPA system for <strong>Project Air 7003<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>GA-ASI designed the new RPA as the next generation of <strong>multi-mission Predator<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> B fleet<\/strong>. GA-ASI named its baseline <strong>MQ-9B aircraft <em>SkyGuardian<\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em> and the maritime surveillance variant <em>SeaGuardian<\/em><em>, <\/em><em>which is available with a multimode 360 degree <strong>Maritime Patrol Radar <\/strong>and a host of other maritime capabilities.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>MQ-9B<\/strong> development is the result of a five-year, company funded program to deliver an <strong>unmanned aircraft<\/strong> to meet the stringent airworthiness type-certification requirements of NATO and various civil authorities. As part of the certification effort, MQ-9B is being provisioned with a <strong>GA-ASI-developed Detect and Avoid &#8211; DAA<\/strong> <strong>system<\/strong>. The <strong>DAA system<\/strong> consists of a <strong>Due Regard Radar and processor<\/strong>, coupled with an advanced <strong>Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System &#8211; TCAS II<\/strong>, and <strong>Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast &#8211; ADS-B<\/strong>.
