{"id":5527,"date":"2019-07-24T08:03:43","date_gmt":"2019-07-24T07:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=5527"},"modified":"2019-11-14T18:40:15","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T17:40:15","slug":"boeing-first-p-8a-poseidon-for-united-kingdom-takes-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=5527","title":{"rendered":"BOEING: FIRST P-8A POSEIDON FOR UNITED KINGDOM TAKES FLIGHT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\">Boeing P-8A Poseidon<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\">United Kingdom Royal Air Force &#8211; RAF<\/a> took off from <strong>Renton<\/strong>, Wash. at 10:00 a.m. Pacific on <strong>July 12<\/strong>, marking the <strong>first flight<\/strong> of this <strong>inaugural UK P-8A<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the <strong>90 minute <\/strong>flight key testing took place before the aircraft touched down and moved to the next phase of preparation before customer delivery, installation of <strong>military systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\">UK Ministry of Defence &#8211; MOD<\/a> and <strong>Royal Air Force<\/strong> personnel, along with <strong>Boeing P-8 program<\/strong> leaders, were on hand to witness the takeoff and landing of the recently <strong>painted aircraft<\/strong>, number <strong>ZP801<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is a great milestone in the UK P-8A Poseidon\u2019s journey to the UK, as we are one step closer to its arrival in Scotland<\/em> &#8211; said to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spazio-news.it\/\">Spazio-News Magazine<\/a> Air Commodore Richard Barrow, the senior responsible owner for the UK\u2019s P-8A program -. <em>The platform will enhance the UK\u2019s maritime patrol capability with advanced, state-of-the-art technology.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>RAF P-8A Poseidon<\/strong> fleet will support <strong>maritime surveillance<\/strong>, <strong>anti-submarine warfare<\/strong> and <strong>anti-ship warfare<\/strong> for the UK, and will increase protection of the <strong>UK\u2019s nuclear deterrent<\/strong> and <strong>Queen Elizabeth class aircraft<\/strong> carriers.<\/p>\n<p>The first of <strong>nine P-8As ordered<\/strong> by the UK now moves to the <strong>P-8 Installation<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>Checkout facility<\/strong> in <strong>Tukwila<\/strong>, Wash., where mission systems are installed and further testing happens before final delivery to the customer later <strong>this year<\/strong>. When the <strong>aircraft<\/strong> is delivered it will first fly to U.S. Naval Air Station Jacksonville for additional preparation and <strong>training<\/strong> by UK personnel before flying home to the UK. The <strong>RAF<\/strong> will take delivery of <strong>ZP801<\/strong> later this year and it will move to the UK in <strong>early 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> is one of six international customers for the <strong>P-8A Poseidon<\/strong>. As a direct commercial sale, India has received eight of the <strong>P-8I variant<\/strong> to date with four more in production. The <strong>U.S. Navy<\/strong> is on contract to receive <strong>111<\/strong> with the potential for additional quantities based on the fleet\u2019s needs. As a cooperative partner with the <strong>Maritime Patrol<\/strong> <strong>&amp; Reconnaissance Program<\/strong> <strong>Office<\/strong>, <strong>Australia<\/strong> began receiving their <strong>P-8A aircraft<\/strong> in 2016 with eight delivered and four more in production; <strong>Norway<\/strong> will begin receiving their <strong>five P-8As<\/strong> in 2022; both <strong>New Zealand<\/strong> and <strong>South Korea<\/strong> have signed agreements with the U.S. Navy to purchase four and <strong>six aircraft<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first Boeing P-8A Poseidon for the United Kingdom Royal Air Force &#8211;
