Raytheon Company<\/a> delivered the first high-energy laser Counter-Unmanned Aerial System – C-UAS<\/strong> to the US Air Force<\/a> earlier this month. The system will be deployed overseas as part of a year-long Air Force experiment<\/strong> to train operators and test the system’s effectiveness in real-world conditions.<\/p>\n

Now, we hear about attacks or incursions all the time. Our customers saw this coming and asked us to develop a ready-now counter-UAS capability. We did just that by going from the drawing board to delivery in less than 24 months.” <\/em><\/p>\n

Raytheon<\/strong>‘s high-energy laser weapon system<\/strong> uses an advanced variant of the company’s Multi-spectral Targeting System<\/a>, an electro-optical\/infrared sensor<\/strong>, to detect<\/strong>, identify<\/strong> and track rogue drones<\/strong>. Once targeted, the system engages the threat<\/strong>, neutralizing the UAS in a matter of seconds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Raytheon installed its high-energy laser weapon system<\/strong> on a small<\/strong> all-terrain vehicle<\/strong>. On a single charge from a standard 220-volt<\/strong> outlet, the HELWS<\/strong> can deliver intelligence<\/strong>, surveillance<\/strong> and reconnaissance<\/strong> capability and dozens<\/strong> of precise laser shots<\/strong>. It can also be paired with a generator to provide a nearly infinite number of shots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Raytheon<\/a> is integrating multiple proven technologies to C-UAS<\/strong> threat across a wide range of scenarios, from commercial airports<\/strong> to forward operating bases<\/strong> to crowded stadiums.
