{"id":7322,"date":"2019-11-29T09:05:02","date_gmt":"2019-11-29T08:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=7322"},"modified":"2019-11-24T16:10:08","modified_gmt":"2019-11-24T15:10:08","slug":"satellite-eutelsats-konnect-ready-to-ship-to-kourou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=7322","title":{"rendered":"SATELLITE: EUTELSAT\u2019S KONNECT, READY TO SHIP TO KOUROU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thalesgroup.com\">KONNECT communications satellite<\/a>, built by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thalesgroup.com\">Thales Alenia Space<\/a> for the <strong>international operator<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eutelsat.com\/\">Eutelsat Communications,<\/a> is now undergoing <strong>final preparation prior<\/strong> to being shipped to the <strong>Guiana Space Center<\/strong> in <strong>Kourou<\/strong>, French Guiana, for a <strong>launch planned mid-January 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cKONNECT is a key to our strategy of developing large-scale satellite Internet services. It will soon be shipped to Europe\u2019s Spaceport for a launch early next year<\/em> \u2013 Said Yohann Leroy, <strong>Deputy CEO and Chief Technical Officer of Eutelsat<\/strong> -. <em>I would like to thank our industrial partner, Thales Alenia Space, for their all-out commitment to this programme. They are involved in several of our programmes, supporting our goal of reducing the digital divide. These satellites will work with terrestrial networks by providing additional connectivity resources, at a time when access to high-speed Internet plays a major role in both national and regional economic and social development.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thalesgroup.com\/\">KONNECT<\/a> will provide <strong>high-speed Internet services<\/strong> for markets in <strong>Africa<\/strong> and <strong>Western Europe. <\/strong>Offering total capacity of <strong>75 Gbps<\/strong>, by next autumn this <strong>satellite<\/strong> will allow the operator to provide <strong>Internet access services<\/strong> for both companies and individuals at <strong>up to 100 Mbps<\/strong>. In <strong>Africa<\/strong>, it will also allow several users to share an <strong>Internet connection via public Wi-Fi hotspots<\/strong>; a service sold via coupons that can be paid on their <strong>mobile phones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are very proud to present our first all-electric Spacebus NEO satellite today, alongside our legacy customer Eutelsat. KONNECT combines innovation and in-orbit heritage to offer a fully modular platform along with an innovative and intelligent payload to provide high throughput, highly agile services in Ka-band<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Jean-Lo\u00efc Galle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Thales Alenia Space<\/strong>, added -. <em>This technological success has been possible thanks to the support from the French and European space agencies, which helped us develop Spacebus NEO, and from the French Investment in the Future Plan, for high-throughput capabilities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A pivotal part of Eutelsat\u2019s strategy to restore its growth, centered around <strong>connectivity<\/strong>, the <strong>KONNECT satellite<\/strong> will also play a lead role in bridging the digital divide in <strong>Africa<\/strong> and <strong>Europe<\/strong>. The next major step forward will come in <strong>2022<\/strong> with the introduction of the <strong>KONNECT Very High Throughput Satellite &#8211; VHTS<\/strong> , also under construction by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thales.com\/\">Thales<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>new KONNECT satellite<\/strong> features <strong>all-electric propulsion<\/strong> and operates in <strong>Ka-band<\/strong>. It is the first to use <strong>Thales Alenia Space\u2019s all-electric Spacebus NEO platform<\/strong>, developed under the <strong>Neosat Partnership Project<\/strong> conducted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/\">ESA<\/a> and <strong>French space agencies &#8211;
