I could not be more proud of the Starliner team and the dedication put forward to get here today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/space\/starliner\/\">Boeing Starliner<\/a> was mated to the rocket\u2019s upper stage in <strong>ULA\u2019s Vertical Integration Facility<\/strong> after being transported this morning from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/\">Boeing\u2019s assembly building<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennedyspacecenter.com\/\">NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center<\/a>. On <strong>15<sup>th<\/sup> December<\/strong>, two days before launch, <strong>Starliner<\/strong> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulalaunch.com\/\">Atlas V<\/a> will move a final half-mile to its launch pad.<\/p>\n<p>Combined, <strong>Starliner<\/strong> and the <strong>Atlas V stand 172 52 meters<\/strong> <strong>tall<\/strong>. The <strong>rocket<\/strong> <strong>generates<\/strong> about 1.6 million pounds of thrust at launch. The <strong>Atlas V<\/strong>, built in <strong>Alabama<\/strong>, has completed <strong>80 successful launches since 2002<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>first Starliner flight<\/strong> to the <strong>International Space Station<\/strong>, which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boeing.com\/\">Boeing<\/a> also built and sustains for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA<\/a>, will carry only cargo for its few-day docked stay. The <strong>second flight test<\/strong>, using a different spacecraft, will take <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boeing.com\/\">Boeing astronaut Chris Ferguson<\/a>, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA astronauts Mike Fincke and Nicole Mann<\/a>, to the station for a longer mission.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>reusable Starliner capsule<\/strong> is being developed in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA\u2019s Commercial Crew Program<\/a>, which will return America\u2019s ability to launch people to <strong>low Earth orbit<\/strong> from <strong>American soil<\/strong> for the first time since <strong>Ferguson commanded<\/strong> the final <strong>space shuttle<\/strong> mission in <strong>2011<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boeing\u2019s new CST-100 Starliner is now connected to the United Launch Alliance &#8211;
