{"id":4862,"date":"2019-06-19T05:38:48","date_gmt":"2019-06-19T04:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=4862"},"modified":"2019-06-09T17:45:44","modified_gmt":"2019-06-09T16:45:44","slug":"esa-boost-to-new-commercial-space-transportation-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spazio-news.it\/?p=4862","title":{"rendered":"ESA BOOST TO NEW COMMERCIAL SPACE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Europe<\/strong> is part of a <strong>new era in space transportation<\/strong> with new <strong>commercial initiatives<\/strong> offering <strong>services to space<\/strong>, <strong>in<\/strong> <strong>space<\/strong>, and <strong>back from space<\/strong> springing up within the privately led and funded space sector.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/\">European Space Agency &#8211; ESA<\/a> welcomes this development\u00a0towards further <strong>European industrial growth and competitiveness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESA<\/strong>, tasked with growing and supporting <strong>European businesses<\/strong>, is proposing a <strong>Commercial Space Transportation Services and Support Programme <\/strong>(<strong>C-STS<\/strong>) beyond <strong>2019<\/strong>, which will be presented at the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.esa.int\/space19plus\/\">Space 19+<\/a> <strong>Council meeting<\/strong> at Ministerial level in <strong>November<\/strong> this year.\u00a0The initial focus will be <strong>microlaunchers <\/strong>and national<strong> spaceports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This programme is borne out of <strong>ESA\u2019s long-term vision<\/strong> to build economic resilience within <strong>Europe\u2019s space transportation sector<\/strong>. It offers the tools to create commercially successful, privately funded initiatives for new space transport services.<\/p>\n<p>ESA offers a range of support options. Entities with commercial initiatives that complement existing <strong>ESA space transportation programmes <\/strong>and<strong> activities<\/strong>, can apply for expert technical and business advice from across the <strong>Agency<\/strong>, access to facilities and resources, support from relevant <strong>ESA Business Incubation Centres<\/strong>, co-funding, and facilitation to access risk finance opportunities through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/For_Media\/Press_Releases\/EIB_and_ESA_to_cooperate_on_increasing_investments_in_the_European_Space_Sector\">collaboration between ESA and the European Investment Bank<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Initiatives proposed to ESA are expected to result in a commercially viable service with a financing scheme based on private investments.<\/p>\n<p>To test the field, ESA reached out last summer with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Our_Activities\/Space_Transportation\/Focus_on_the_future_of_space_transportation_ESA_s_call_for_ideas\">call for ideas<\/a> on <strong>new space transportation services<\/strong>. It resulted in <strong>79 proposals<\/strong> of which 41 were considered eligible for expert advice from ESA. ESA chose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Our_Activities\/Space_Transportation\/Winning_ideas_for_new_space_transport_services\">three winning proposals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A growing <strong>demand for launches of<\/strong> <strong>small satellites<\/strong> <strong>on<\/strong> <strong>microlaunchers<\/strong> has piqued <strong>ESA Member States<\/strong>\u2019 interest in national <strong>spaceports<\/strong>.
