THALES IS TO GUARANTEE CRITICAL AIRNAV TASKS FOR THE EJÉRCITO DEL AIRE

Thales Spain in Spain has been awarded a contract for the supply of Critical Navigation Information Systems – CNIS by the Ejército del Aire.

This new contract reinforces Thales’s cooperation with the Ejército del Aire – said at Spazio-News Magazine Jesús Sánchez Bagos, CEO of Thales Spain -. As ever, our aim is to offer quality technology, assuring the lifecycle of equipment and the safety of the most critical navigation operations.”

In line with the Air Force’s comprehensive plan for radio aids, Thales is to replace the TACtical Air Navigation – TACAN systems providing bearing and distance information to military aircraft fitted with onboard receivers for communication with ground equipment.

Thales engineers and technicians, with extensive experience in civil and military navigation systems at various spanish airports, will carry out the upgrade, dismantling the old equipment, fitting the new TACAN systems and adapting existing facilities.

The equipment will be operational by 2021 on various runways to facilitate navigation manoeuvres by military aircraft, assuring the highest level of Safety. The Air Force is renewing its radio-aid systems deployed in airfields at Zaragoza, Torrejón de Ardoz, Talavera la Real and Albacete.
