DEFENCE & SECURITY: ARE YOU READY FOR EUROSATORY 2020?

Spazio-News Magazine will be media partner of Eurosatory 2020, to be held in the Parc des expositions de Paris Nord Villepinte (Paris) from 8 the to 12 the June 2020.

We interviewed Mr. Patrick Colas Des Francs, exhibition’s Director in order to understand how the world of Defence & Security changes and which technological challenges will be faced.

Mr. Colas Des Francs, how did Eurosatory come about and how are you preparing for the upcoming edition?

Eurosatory was created by the French military procurement agency and first held in 1967 under the name Satory. With evolution, it became a European-level event and now it’s the global international trade fair with over 1,800 exhibitors from all the countries with Defence and Security industry, over 98,000 professional attendees

For the upcoming edition, we are preparing some novelties. Innovation and the most recent technologies will be highlighted at the exhibiting area.

Attendees of Eurosatory exhibition will also take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the latest developments and main trends in defence technologies by visiting live demonstrations, a real specificity of the show. There, the products and equipment are presented in real situations. In addition of exhibiting companies, foreign and French institutions take part in the live demonstrations.

In addition to stands and live demonstrations, the large conferences programme is prepared and will include over 70 conferences and Exhibitors Pitches.

Why the event is important and what should we expect for this year?

Eurosatory exhibition is an unmissable event as it’s the place where every participant can find a solution, or a product adapted to his needs but also to discover all the most important trends in Defence and Security industry. As every time, over 500 new products & technologies will be introduced to the market for the first time.  

In addition to big companies and SMEs, Eurosatory gives a significant boost to start-ups. About 80 start-ups will be gathered in a specially designed start-ups areas called Eurosatory LAB and cluster GENERATE at GICAT’s stand. They will present their solutions alongside with big companies.

At Eurosatory many companies are gathered into national pavilions. Eurosatory LAB - Spazio-News MagazineIn 2018, 39 national pavilions were designed. Pavilions of Australia (more than 40 companies), Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia and Latvia participated for the first time in the exhibition’s history. Pavilions of Germany, Serbia, South Korea and Turkey enlarged their exhibiting surface in 2018. The most represented countries by exhibitors were USA (152 exhibitors), Germany (118 exhibitors), United Kingdom (85 exhibitors), Israel (72 exhibitors) and Turkey (61 exhibitors). For 2020, national pavilions of Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Scandinavian countries have already increased their exhibiting surface. Lithuanian industries will exhibit for the first time under national pavilion. 

The technology is a crucial factor to enforce the security, what are the solutions presented by companies?

Security products and solutions will be highlighted at the same level as defence ones. Exhibitors present Emergency Evacuation Systems, Communication and Information tools, CBRN Warning systems, Crowd and Individuals Control products, solutions for security of private sector, medical equipment, intervention vehicles, detection & localization equipment and many other technologies from security domain.

How about new geo-political scenarios and how Eurosatory can support the development of new technologies?

Eurosatory is exhaustive exhibition that presents all the new defence and security technologies and products from all over the world. The most in addition to exhibiting area, over 70 conferences and exhibitors’ pitches are organised all along 5 days of the exhibition. There, high-level experts, senior military, government and industry figures discuss key and thought-provoking topics including geopolitical issues.  

During the five days of the exhibition, high-level conferences, pitches and demonstrations are also held on the Eurosatory Lab, as well as various activities and user-friendly events such as the public vote for the “Start-up of the day!”, the most attractive and interesting start-up company according to voters.

Finally, could you please provide us an advice for who plans to attend this event?

Eurosatory welcomes professional visitors with various functions: defence & security professionals, institutional decision-makers, defence and security authorities and influential VIP experts, experts involved in equipment evaluation and procurement processes, operational staff and equipment users, members of think tanks, test centres and universities.

To prepare their visit, I recommend to all the attendees to discover online version of the official exhibition catalogue that will be available some weeks before the exhibition as well as to check Eurosatory website and to download easy-to-use mobile application to programme business meetings with exhibitors.
